OVERVIEW

Overview

The project focused on redesigning the Noise Champ 3 Kids Smartwatch as an evolution of Champ 2. While the existing product was functionally solid, it struggled to maintain long-term engagement, with children often losing interest over time.

The goal was to create a more playful and expressive design that could stand out in a competitive category — without increasing production cost or changing the core hardware architecture.

Challenge

Key constraints shaped the project:

  • Fixed internal components (display, battery, layout)

  • Minimal scope for hardware changes

  • Tight 3-month development timeline

The opportunity lay in reimagining the external form to drive engagement, while staying within strict manufacturing and cost boundaries.

Approach

The design focused on transforming the watch’s outer shell into a more dynamic and interactive experience.

  • Introduced a bold, layered design language

  • Enhanced tactility through protective, expressive forms

  • Shifted the product closer to the emotional space of a toy

This allowed the product to feel more engaging, without altering its core functionality.

Outcome

The final design improves both engagement and visual identity:

  • Stronger shelf presence in a crowded category

  • Increased sense of playfulness and personality

  • Opportunities for personalization through CMF variations

  • Durable, child-friendly form factor

All improvements were achieved through geometry, part breakup, and CMF decisions, ensuring cost efficiency while delivering a product that feels fresh and less likely to be abandoned over time.

Why this works better

  • Easier to scan quickly (important for recruiters/clients)

  • Breaks content into clear sections

  • Focuses on impact, not just process

  • Feels more like a design studio case study
