Overview
Modena is a luxury swing concept designed to reimagine a familiar furniture typology through contemporary form, adaptability, and emotional connection. Developed for modern urban homes, the project explores how swings can evolve beyond traditional indoor and outdoor seating to become sculptural lifestyle pieces that encourage relaxation, social interaction, and personal expression.
The design combines soft, inviting upholstery with a precision-engineered metal exoskeleton, creating a distinctive balance between comfort and structure. Inspired by playful geometry and minimalist design principles, Modena transforms the swing into a modern sanctuary for contemporary living spaces.
Challenge
Market research revealed a clear gap between oversized resort-inspired swings and highly traditional designs commonly found in Indian homes. Existing products often prioritized either visual impact or comfort, rarely achieving both within a space-efficient footprint.
The challenge was to create a premium swing that felt contemporary yet culturally relevant, while introducing greater adaptability through an adjustable hanging system and modular components. The design also needed to accommodate modern lifestyle expectations by integrating technology and personalization without compromising elegance.
Approach
The design language was built around the contrast between soft organic volumes and a refined structural framework. Plush, blob-like cushions create an immediate sense of comfort, while the exposed metal exoskeleton provides visual lightness, durability, and a premium architectural character.
A non-traditional hanging system was developed to adapt to varying ceiling heights, allowing the swing to integrate more easily into different residential environments. Detachable backrests and handles enable multiple configurations, giving users the flexibility to tailor the experience for lounging, social interaction, or individual relaxation.
Outcome
Modena presents a new vision for luxury swing furniture, combining sculptural aesthetics, adaptability, and modern functionality within a compact footprint suited to contemporary homes. By merging the emotional comfort of a traditional swing with the precision and versatility of modern product design, the concept creates a distinctive identity within the premium furniture category.
